Early Years Foundation Stage

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a national statutory framework to be delivered by all schools and early years providers in Ofsted registered settings attended by children from birth to five. The aim of the of the (EYFS) is to help young children achieve the five Every Child Matters (ECM) Outcomes of staying safe, being healthy, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and achieving economic well being.

The EYFS principles that guide the work of all practitioners are grouped into four themes - A Unique Child, Positive Relationships, Enabling Environments and Learning and Development.

The EYFS includes the Statutory Framework, which sets out the legal requirements, and the Practice Guidance, which provides further information, guidance (non-statutory) and the areas of learning and development.
